LCL dominated in their last game of the regular season, beating the Pacers 56-6. Heicher, Boldt, Nehls, Connell, and Damato all reached the end zone to run up the score, while the defense held strong on the other side of the ball. Several fumble recoveries and interceptions prevented Shoreland from reaching over six points, and a handful of huge runs and terrific catches allowed the Lightning to control the game. The win brought LCL to a perfect 9-0 record on the season, taking wins over both conference and non-conference opponents. The Lightning are a #1 seed going into the WIAA Division 5 playoffs, and they take on New Holstein on Friday, October 22nd to begin their playoff journey.
Interview with Stephen Connell
You had several touchdowns and an overall very good game against Shoreland, so what would you say about your field vision during the game and the way your blockers were able to help you?
They helped me a ton, they opened up lots of big holes, and they just did their assignments.
What were some factors that contributed to your team going 9-0 this season?
We played as a team and continued to keep our goal in mind, which is to win state.
Do you have a favorite game or moment of the season so far this year?
This game, because I got to watch Bryce score his touchdown and watch Sam almost catch up to him.
What is your team’s attitude going to be like going into the playoffs?
Our attitude is to prepare as best as we can and keep our focus on playing as a team, and have our goal in mind to win a state championship.
