Last weekend, on September 2nd, the LCL girls and boys cross country squads traveled up to Sheboygan for the Concordia Classic Meet. The team went on to find great success there, with the boys placing second and the girls taking third. The three Konley brothers on the team, senior Ernie, junior Titus, and sophomore AJ, were all more than pleased with the team result.
“The Sheboygan meet was a really fun race. Everyone was cheering each other on, and our team was very encouraging to the other racers. I think that’s why we were able to do so well in the race.” shared Ernie.
His brother Titus also went on to praise the girls’ terrific result, sharing, “We were all just really focused. The girls did phenomenally, running very hard and placing third.”
AJ added, “I think we were able to do so well because of the great environment with great weather, and overall a terrific team.” The Concordia Classic Meet was certainly a notable early-season highlight, and something for the team to be proud of.
On Saturday, September 10th, the team headed to South Milwaukee for their next challenge at Grant Park. The meet was large, hosting a plethora of Milwaukee-area schools of all sizes and making it a competitive race for the Lightning. AJ said, “It was a great race for the team and it was filled with great competition.” His older brothers Titus and Ernie shared that many runners still found success even in the adverse environment.
“It was a ton of fun,” Ernie explained. “A lot of people [hit personal records] and everyone worked really hard, which was more fun because this was a bigger meet.”
The LCL cross country team heads down to UW-Parkside this coming weekend for their next meet, before hosting a home invitational.
